Located just 23 miles south of Washington, D.C., Waldorf was settled before 1900. It was primarily a rural crossroads with a train station and was called “Beantown” after a local family. Today, Waldorf is a bedroom community for residents who work in Washington, D.C., or at the Andrews Air Force Base. Tobacco was previously the primary crop of this region, but it has been replaced by corn, soy and other vegetables. This city has played a major role in America’s history. John Wilkes Booth once sought medical attention from Dr. Samuel Mudd, who was living in nearby Clinton, Maryland. Dr. Mudd’s home has been restored and turned into a museum.
For those looking for outdoor activities, the Capital Clubhouse offers an ice rink, skating, rock climbing walls, an indoor sports court and full gym. Instruction in both skating and hockey is available. You’ll also find bowling alleys and a number of golf courses available to test your skills.
