Bethlehem was named for the birthplace of Jesus in Israel and was originally settled by Count Nikolaus von Zinzendorf on Christmas Eve in 1741. Now the city is fondly known as “Christmas City.”
As of the 2012 U.S. Census, Bethlehem had a population of 75,103, and most residents work in health care, educational services and construction.

Every November and December you can check out Bethlehem’s Christkindlmarkt and celebrate the season. For more than 20 years, the city has been hosting this holiday event where you can celebrate old-world charm and holiday cheer while purchasing unique gifts, sipping warm drinks like cider and mulled wine and visits the booths of more than 125 vendors. Stroll through the pine tree farm, watch ice sculptors and glassblowers create masterpieces and visit the German market.
Families will enjoy living near the Banana Factory, which is a community center that was once a banana warehouse. Today it’s home to two art galleries as well as classrooms and artist studios. A variety of classes are offered as well as summer camps where kids can become immersed in the arts, whether it’s painting ceramics or jewelry making.
