What a Move to North Bend Has to Offer
North Bend, OR, is a coastal city in the southwest part of the state, incorporated in 1903. Not to be confused with land-locked Bend to the northeast, North Bend is bordered on three sides by Coos Bay on the Pacific Ocean, with the Oregon Coast Range to the east. The Coos region remained isolated from the rest of Oregon until 1915. The bulk of the growth in North Bend began in the 1920s and ’30s, with the final expansion coming after World War II.
Whether you have a large family or you're single, you can find something about North Bend that will interest you. The area offers a wide variety of entertainment opportunities, including water sports and outdoor activities in the Oregon Coastal Range and nearby Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area, as well as shopping at the Pony Village Mall and gaming at the casino. There’s a golf resort approximately 25 miles south of the city.
The area is the ancestral home of the Coquille, Siuslaw and Umpqua peoples. These three Native American tribes lived here for thousands of years. Today, Native Americans, of all tribes, comprise less than 3 percent of the estimated 9,500 inhabitants of the city. However, the Coquille Indian Tribe is well represented in the business community. The tribe owns and operates a casino and hotel, an assisted living center, a telecommunications provider and an organic cranberry growing and packing enterprise. The tribal government of the Coquille Indian Tribe also has its seat in North Bend.
North Bend possesses a moderate but humid climate. It rarely snows in the winter, but it’s frequently foggy. Summer temperatures are often cooler than in Seattle.
