What a Move to Grand Forks Has to Offer
The historic community was founded on the eastern-central border of the state along the banks of the Red River. Situated approximately 74 miles north of Fargo, the city has a number of public transportation options that include Cities Area Transit buses, Amtrak and the Grand Forks International Airport. U. S. Route 2, U.S. Highway 81 and I-29 all pass through Grand Forks, which makes commuting or traveling convenient. Major employers established in the city include Altru Health System, Grand Forks Air Force Base, the Grand Forks Public School system and Valley Memorial Home.
A 2014 census indicated that Grand Forks had an estimated 56,057 residents. More than 24 percent of families have children. In addition to the many public and private schools that accommodate students in grades K-12, the community is also home to the University of North Dakota. Students also attend Northland Community and Technical College, which lies on the other side of the river.
The community takes pride in promoting cultural growth. The UND campus houses the North Dakota Museum of Art, which showcases the talents of local and regional artists. The facility's Theater Arts and Music departments also regularly host a number of productions that include Broadway musicals. Other local presenters of cultural events include the Greater Grand Forks Symphony Orchestra, the North Dakota Ballet Company and the Grand Forks City Band.
The Myra Museum houses a collection of exhibits that trace the history of the area from the Ice Age to modern times. The site also has a Victorian Post Office, a one-room schoolhouse and the Campbell House. The city maintains 14 parks that feature numerous athletic fields, tennis courts and an outdoor swimming pool. The Greater Grand Forks Greenway sprawls along the river and has flower gardens, hiking and cycling trails.
