What a Move to Greensboro Has to Offer
Greensboro is the third-largest city in North Carolina in terms of population. The U.S. Census estimates that the city had a population of just over 277,000 residents in 2012. One reason people choose to live in Greensboro is its location near Interstate 73, Interstate 40 and Interstate 85. This makes getting around and visiting other areas of North Carolina a breeze. Greensboro is also located directly between the Great Smoky Mountains to the west and the Outer Banks and Atlantic Ocean beaches to the east, which give residents a lot to explore without having to travel too far from home.
Much like other southeastern cities in the country, Greensboro has a subtropical climate and enjoys four very distinct seasons. Winter doesn't last long and isn't extremely cold. For example, the daily average for the month of January is 38.9 degrees Fahrenheit, but residents still enjoy an average snowfall of 7.5 inches, which generally falls between January and February.
There are a number of attractions in Greensboro to see as well, including the Bog Garden, which is only accessible via an elevated boardwalk. While the entire garden is 1.06 miles, the boardwalk itself is only about half of a mile in length. When enjoying the trails around the Bog Garden, visitors can see a thriving wetland ecosystem of plants and animals.
Located near the Bog Garden, the Bicentennial Garden is another attraction that was established in 1976 to commemorate the U.S. bicentennial. The garden contains 1.25 miles of paved trails that wind along outdoor sculptures and flowers. History buffs may also want to check out the International Civil Rights Center and Museum. Its collection was first put on display in 2010 by Sit-in Movement, Inc. to commemorate the American Civil Rights movement in Greensboro.
