What a Move to Ridgefield Has to Offer
Historic Ridgefield lies at the bottom of the Berkshire Mountains in the southwestern corner of the state. The 1,200-foot Pine Mountain stands at the northeast edge of the town. The overall terrain of the community is hilly, and approximately one-fourth of Ridgefield has undeveloped open space. U.S. Highway 7 travels through the township in a north/south direction and connects with I-85, which makes for easy access to various parts of the state. New York City is a mere 60 miles away. For the convenience of residents and visitors, the Metro-North Railroad has a station in the community with routes that include other New York cities.
The community appeals to families, and 43 percent of the households making their home here have children attending local schools. Ridgefield has two private and nine public schools that accommodate students K-12. The local parks and recreation organization promotes health and well-being by offering programs for residents of all ages. Shopping and dining opportunities are plentiful along Main Street and in the Branchville and Copps Hill neighborhoods.
The 300-year old community has a number of interesting attractions. The Keeler Tavern Museum was originally a home constructed in the 1700s. By the time of the Revolutionary War, the structure had been converted into a combination tavern and inn. Though now still a tavern, the venue offers tours that explain local history. The Benedict House, the Frederic Remington House and the Phineas Chapman Lounsbury House are other historic residences.
Ridgefield has nine city parks and one national park that offer more than 5,000 acres of open space and miles of paths for cycling, hiking, jogging or walking. Seth Low Pierrepont State Park spans more than 300 acres and includes Lake Naraneka and Pierrepont Lake.
