The Current State of Corporate Relocation & Employee Moving
The recent pandemic has had a significant long-term impact on corporate relocation, also known as employee relocation. As officials learned more about the virus and the way it spread, organizations had little choice but to close offices to all but "essential" employees, telling the bulk of their workforce to work remotely (work from home). This global crisis has resulted in widespread socio-economic costs and changes to industries across the board. Talent recruitment became more difficult as more women left the workforce to homeschool their children. When offices started reopening, their was significant pushback from employees that either wanted to continue working remotely full time or wanted some part time work from home accommodation. During the pandemic, if a company wanted to relocate an employee, the hurdles were almost insurmountable - from transportation delays or stoppages, to process delays (particularly for those moving internationally). And while things are getting back to normal, businesses are still adjusting to new challenges in the way people work, which includes questions about relocating employees as part of business operations.
So with the pandemic hopefully firmly in our rearview mirror, what does the future look like for the relocation and moving industry? northAmerican was interested and commissioned a study of human resource professionals involved in relocation decisions. Our goal for this study was to report on current corporate policies, better understand the major players and motivators and predict future trends to provide data to human resource professionals that will better help them make decisions in their relocation planning.
