Black diamond refers to the mining of coal, as there were once several thriving coal-mining communities located in this region. Today visitors will find the historic Rose Hill Cemetery as well as sweeping views of the city, rolling hills and beyond.
To hit the links, make your way to Lone Tree Golf Course, for stunning fairways, a par-72 layout and a rich history. The course hosts four different NCGA point events each year. Families enjoy a day at Prewett Family Park, which packs a slides and several pools ranging from toddler to near-Olympic sizes. There are lifeguards on duty, so parents can swim without worry.
Catch all the entertainment at El Campanil Theatre, a refurbished venue that hosts live stage shows. Every month it dedicates a weekend show to a foreign film.
